Mille Lacs Lake Fishing Report for Mid-Summer Smallmouth Bass, Walleye, and Muskie. (August 2024)

This week's Mille Lacs Lake fishing report includes valuable tips on how to locate and catch smallmouth bass, walleye, and muskie during the mid-summer season.

Mille Lacs Lake Fishing Report, Current lake conditions, and new walleye regulations

It's been an excellent season for fishing on Mille Lacs Lake. The walleye bite has been phenomenal, bass fishing is ranked among the best in the country, and we've had a good average for muskie action. Walleyes will open back up for harvest mid August, two fish per person should be no problem!

Currently water temps are around the mid 70's, the lake level has risin to normal, and regular bug hatches havn't seemed to impact the fishing. We've been having a lot of fun on the big lake!

Muskie fishing best on deep weeds and basin baitfish

There seems to be two distinclty different bites going on Mille Lacs. Deep weedlines have been productive during the morning and evening, with some of the best activity coming on topwaters and bucktails. For daytime muskies, trolling large crankbaits over schools of bait in the basin is effective for big fish.

The Mille Lacs Walleye Bite is HOT!

New regs should make fishing poplular coming up mid August. There are plenty of keepers in the lake, and there are many ways to catch them. Bobbers and leeches have been producing constant action when paired with live sonar. Trolling leadcore is also popular at this time of year. We have recently had good days on all three major structures including the mud, gravel, and rocks.

Mille Lacs Lake Ranked again, as one of the

Best Bass Lakes in Country

Its been another great season of smallmouth fishing on Mille Lacs! Recent tournament weights are still showing just how amazing this bass fishery is. Mid-July still requires a five pound average for a shot at winning!

This past couple of weeks there has been a shift in forage, an influx of young of the year bait has made the annual move from the shallows, out to the main lake. This switch often times catches anglers off gaurd. While bottom fishing techniques are the mainstay throughout the majority of the season, minnow style baits are often more productive at this time. Spybaits can be smallmouth magic during the mid summer period on Mille Lacs.

Good luck fishing and have a great weekend!
