The big lake is freezing up! First ice provides great opportunities in the bays, while the main lake will take a little longer for safe travel.
Walleye fishing can be good on first ice in Cove, Wahkon, and Isle Bays. Mornings and evenings are typically best in this shallower water, with hard to soft bottom transitions producing the most fish.
Perch and northern pike fishing is best around green weed growth. Cabbage in the 10'-12' range produces big pike, and an abundant population of perch with a few keepers mixed in.
